About Glendale Firefighters Charities
Supporting the community and making Phoenix a better place for everyone
First founded in 2001, we here at Glendale Firefighters Charities are dedicated to serving our Glendale, AZ neighbors in as many ways as possible. As a multi-faceted organization, Glendale Firefighters Charities supports varied community causes and programs without regard to any socio-economic classifications. All that is important to us is that there is a need in the community and that they are able to help or find help to fill that need.
Some of Our Local Charity Events We Provide
Back To School
Year after year we have provided local children backpacks, full with all the supplies they need to be successful at the start of the school year. In addition we recognized years ago that many teachers, especially in lower income areas of our community would, and still do pay for classroom supplies using their own money. With that in mind, during our back to school drive we also collect and buy classroom supplies in an effort to relieve some of that burden from our wonderful teachers. Please contact us if you would like to help or if you need assistance.
For the last 15 years Glendale Firefighters have brightened the holiday season for thousands of families. Our toy and clothing drive is unique in that not only do provide multiple toys, clothes and shoes to each child in a family but we also provide gift cards to parents to help provide a holiday meal or treat for their family. In 2016 we had over 100 firefighters volunteer their time and thousands from the community come out to support our drive. With your help and support we were able to help 2064 children.
Pool Fence Program
As the state with the greatest number of swimming pools per capita in the United States, Arizona is ground zero when it comes to fighting pool drownings.Glendale Firefighters Charities provides pool fences to families in need. If you need a pool fence or fence repairs at your house, reach out today and we will help you help your children stay safe.
Smoke Alarm Program
Did you know, three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. In an effort to prevent the loss of life from a fire, one day each month Glendale Firefighters volunteer their time off duty to check or install smoke alarms free of charge. Let us know if you want to be added to our list.
Knowing that many hands make light work, Glendale Firefighters Charities both works to support the efforts of other charities as well as illicit help when needed to fill petitioners needs that are beyond their scope or abilities to carry out on their own. Our members work tirelessly to build the sense of community that defines the people of Glendale and greater Phoenix area as a whole as a community that takes care of its own and contributes to the well-being of those beyond its borders.
A few of the larger causes we support and work in partnerships with are:
- The Hope for Hunger Food Bank
- United Way
- Muscular Dystrophy Association
- American Cancer Society
- Read Across America
It takes a special type of person to become a firefighter; to knowingly place their lives on the line against a mindless, all-consuming enemy for the sake of others. To do so and still feel the need to give more, tells us just how special these men and women are.
Each year, members of the Glendale Firefighters Charities contribute over 6000 hrs of their own time and in coordination with their fellow United Phoenix Firefighters chapters over the last 10 years have helped raise over $10 million to help improve their communities. Whether it is installing free smoke detectors in low-income homes, canvassing like-minded contractors to see that a veteran or elderly person has a safe home to live in, teaching schoolchildren the importance of fire safety or serving as Honor Guards, we bring the same selfless attitude to our charity work that we do to a fire. We can’t do it alone, though. We need your support.
For all our good works, it is the assistance we receive from the community in the form of donated resources and skills that make it all possible. To find out more about our work and how you can help, contact us today and let’s make Glendale a better place for all of us.
